This morning I was in a meeting with a well known businessman. It was a senior level meeting and most of our discussion was pretty much off the record without having to really say it. But at one point in the middle of the meeting the client mentioned that what he was about to say was off the record. "Of course," we replied. But he looked at me and smiled then said "don't put this on your blog."
That's when I had to admit to myself that this blog is over. This is something I've been thinking about lately, especially after last week's Muscat TweetMeet where I was asked a lot about what happened to my blog. I have reached a point in my career and my personal life where I have to stop myself from writing on many topics for this exact reason. Can't write about companies because as a banker every company is either a present, past or potential future client. Can't write about politics, because let's face it we aren't exactly in a free speech heaven. Can't write about... (you get the picture)
I will probably continue writing the occasional post, but I will never be able to post the kind of stuff I used to write back when the blog was at its most active. It's not the end, it's just an official admission to myself that my reality has changed, that's all.

"my reality has changed, that's all"
That's a very honest assessment...something I've faced as well. You can either be completely anonymous or completely public on your blog. Anything else causes frustration.
This is kinda sad and unfortunate, but I think that you are doing the right move.
Is it not also because it's easier to tweet?
Thanks for everything Muscati.
More to come, but I think I know what you mean and ... please, continue to at least be an active stabilizer in the bloggosphere, providing facts and clarifications.
IE: be the corporate memory of the internet zeitgeist?
Respect.

It was great while it lasted, but an obvious outcome given your career.
Thanks for the good reading.
I know what you mean. I would write more and more controversially if it didn't jeopardize me. I wish you luck though...but keep in mind that sometimes there's a time for honesty and muck-racking over careers! Not all the time of course...but a time nonetheless. I think:)
have been checking on the blog every weeks hoping for updates..so this comes as sad news :(
but, was great while it lasted!
Hoping you can think about some other things to post that aren't work related or at least "dangerous" for your job. Those of us who people know by name and where we work just have to be wiser about what we post, right?
On a personal note, thanks for the encouragement with the blogging in Oman. It was always nice to see one of my blog posts in your "shared items" lists.
My advice: Don't make this "the end" but rather the start of something new!
Peace!
Aw man, that was a sad post. This is why I remain anonymous because it's easier that way. You've become too well known. Only 5 people have known about my blog this past year, so that makes blogging much easier.
Do keep writing, the occasional post (without offending anyone).
And stay active in the bloggosphere!
Cheers,
Dhofari Gucci

I've always enjoyed reading your blog.
You will be missed.

It was not a fair comment the business associate made - you were never indiscreet in your blog.
Maybe he was just joking and you are reading too much into what he said.
You are doing the right thing, best wishes.
That is why I blog about my travels and try to stay from 'would be' controversial stuff
A part of me would call it selling out, but the realist does understand that, when having to choose between one's career (and thus one's means of supporting their family) and what one really wants to write about, there's only one choice that will normally prevail.
Good luck.
Just keep blogging, they way things go, people would love to read the truth and not hear fictional bullshit and so called rumors that Oman is full of.
it's good to see this information in your post, i was looking the same but there was not any proper resource, thanx now i have the link which i was looking for my research.

Don't go, Mux! You have been a fountain of knowledge and insight for years. Sure, any sensible professional person needs to think about how to put things and where to draw his own line. But there's still a pile of stuff for you to talk about.
I'll make you a deal: If there's a subject you don't want to talk about, then I will talk about it instead. In the mean time, I look forward to whatever else you have to say...
I collected a lot of interesting things from your blog especially its discussion about Cert Killer. From many of comments in your posts, I believe I’m not alone having all the enjoyment here! keep up the great work.
