Ferry to Khasab

Trying to make plans for the second long weekend which is coming up this week. The announcement on Saturday by mass sms of the start of the new high speed ferry service to Khasab, I thought it would be the perfect fit for a three day weekend. We would take our car on the ferry to Khasab. A six hour high speed cruise along Oman's beautiful coast. Faisal would love it. Arrive in Khasab, check in at the Golden Tulip and cruise around Musandam for a day and a half then maybe go to Dubai for a day or come down the coast by car. I was really proud of myself for coming up with this plan. Well, until I was told that while this new ultra expensive world's fastest ferry is indeed capable of carrying cars, they haven't built a ramp yet at the port to load cars into it.

Aaaaaaaaaaargh.

Do you have any idea of there are certain packages for example for the cruise plus a couple of days accommodation at Khasab?

Do they have a website where we can find more information?

I don't have details. Khimji Ramdas are the sales agent but I haven't seen any advertising about the service.

Someone posted the following information on English Sabla:

Departures from Muscat will be at 9am on Sundays and Wednesdays, while the return trip will leave Khasab at 10am on Mondays and Fridays. One-way ticket fares will be: first class - RO59 (children RO29); tourist class - RO39 (children RO22). Return tickets will cost RO110 (children RO55) for first class and RO72 (children RO40) for tourist class. Prices include two meals either way.

I think that the prices are too expensive.

I can't believe that they do not have a website yet when the service is supposed to start next week.

(They have an ad in the papers today, the prices are correct)

Just want to note down that these are round-trip ticket prices, y3ni two-way. Now it makes sense to me.

It was a good plan Muscati... maybe in a year or so?

And this whole 'we'll get around to training some Omanis' thing annoys me. They've had 3 years to train Omanis, and some of those could have come from the Navy, who know a thing or two about boats.

Does seem a tad pricy tho...

I agree with the others - it does seem steep in price, but what to do - we have no choice here it seems for this over-inflated stuff. Ugh.

I'm waiting for Muscati to take the cruise and once he gives his review, will base it on that! :)

With such a speed and two ferries it would be great if there was a daily service between Muscat and Musandam – or even Muscat and Salalah weekly

I heard from a reliable source that the diesel to fuel the ferry costs 18,000 rails a trip! This does not include operational costs.

A second ferry will soon be ready for trips to south of Oman. I cant for the life of me remember its name right now.

Did I read somewhere that the ferry cost $60 million? If that's true then it's more expensive than a Boeing 737 and doesn't carry more passengers than it either. However, while a 737 can make the trip to Musandam and back probably 6 times a day, this ferry goes up one day and comes down the next.

Based on this, I don't think the ticket prices are expensive. Actually I think they're quite reasonable.

does the ferry stop anywhere along the coast? maybe Sohar?

that would be nice ..

I think your plan was good muscati ..

while your up there you should try the new spa/hotel ... the expensive one ..

I don't know more details about the Khasab. Is the stay and other things are expensive in Khasab? I think so.

It will probably stop at Shinas...when they build a new port. It will need to refuel on the way to Khasab.
Does the price include a vehicle?

I went on it and it was amazing by all accounts. Its looked like a business class or a first class section of a plane. I very highly recomend it.

cross channel ferries

Hello. Did anyone travel on this ferry? Is it really the fastest? In UK we get many cross channel ferries on the English channel which are quite fast. We can travel from Dover in England to Dunkerque in Frnace in less than 2 hours and they are all car ferries.

Nice post, coast of Oman are truely beautiful. While staying in the UK I used to travel a lot by ferries to France. Travel by high speed car ferry is very popular there too. From where did you board the ferry to Khasab?

Somehow that just fits...that the boat is finished and beautiful...but no car ramp!!

I love it...

The farther you go, however, the harder it is to return. The world has many edges, and it's easy to fall off. Cheap flights to Muscat
