Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Muscat

A few days ago, I sent an email via the Shangri-La website enquiring about the opening dates of their Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa. I was very impressed when I received a reply from them today (impressed by the immediate reply as well as the detailed email).

So I though I'd post it here for all of you incase you are wondering how much it would cost you to spend the night there :)

Looking at the prices, I will think 100 times before taking a place there.

I wished if they put some real pictures in their website.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the Shangri La the one at Qantab? Where they destroyed a pretty neat piece of nature to build?

It's surely a nice place for relaxation.
It even looks better viewed from the sea.

1500/= R.O is for the Royal suite only! Am sure you didn't check the prices of Burj AlArab did you?

I don't think the price is that expensive considering that it is a resort not a regular hotel. These days the Hyatt charges around 100 rials a night for a regular room and the Bustan Palace is charging over 100 without including breakfast even.
Hotels in Dubai in the middle of the city without a sea view or anything are now at around 800 dirhams a night plus taxes. The Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah has one of the most amazing locations in the world. The price is not cheap, but it's not unreasonable. Don't forget they have three different hotels in one locations with different quality levels. The top one of them, Al Husn, is a six star hotel. You can't compare it with any other hotel in Oman. The closest thing you can compare it with is the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

The only hotel that can be compared to the Shangri-La here in Oman is The Chedi which has room prices starting at around 100 rials for their smallest rooms. I stayed at The Chedi, I think it's one of the best hotels in the world, but it has two huge disadvantages: 1) Bad location with a detergent factory right next to it, and 2) small beach with rough sand and stones- not the usual powdered sand which we have in Oman.

I have to agree with Mux here. We've had to pay alot for some of the hotel rooms we've stayed in in Dubai. Hotel rooms, which I might add, we hardly spent time in. We only used them to shower, change and crash at night.

This is a resort. You'll be spending most of your time in the hotel using its facilities. So, its worth it in the end.

Its not cheap, I'll give you guys that, but for the standard they claim they will be maintaining, it should even out.

We've just returned from 10 days at the Al Waha which was completely full. Overall the hotel is v good with extremely friendly stafff and v good food especially in the buffet restaurants (Samba and Al Tanoor). The rooms are well appointed if a little small for a 5 star hotel and there a number of teething problems not least the lack of shade and sunloungers. However I am sure these will be ironed out in the near future and will make this resort an important addition to the choices available for families in Oman/UAE.
