The first lecture of the ESO's 2005/6 season will be held on October 1st at Majan College at 7pm. It will be an illustrated presentation on the Conservation of the Houbara Bustard. This bird is in danger of extinction within the next 20 years due to excess hunting, both by falconers in Arabia and trainers in Pakistan and Iran who use them to train falcons.
This lecture will be presented by Yasser Al Kharusi who is a biologist at Jaaluni (the Oryx project). Should be an interesting presentation which tells a story that stretches from Oman to the breeding grounds of migrant birds in Central Asia. The lecture will be in English.
Doors open at 7pm. Lecture will begin at 7.30pm.
As usual entry is open to the public, you don't have to be a member to come. Please email: membership@environment.org.om to confirm if you are coming so that we can get an idea of the number to prepare for.

I know these birds are in danger of extinction. I think in Pakistan they are close to being depleted. I am glad to see a lecture being held about the situation. Let us know how it went.
M
muscati: i am interested in attending it. do i need to pay something to be there or do i just show up?
Hi Ali. Our lectures are free and open to anyone who is interested. You are more than welcome to attend.
I am wondering , are there any lectures scheduled between November and Feb ?
Lamees emailed me all the road to arrive there but as usual am in the taxi driver hands.
Yo Muscatiiis, if Balqis is not there at midnite minimum, call rop and my embassy pls :p
i'll try to make it inshallah..
...how did it go?
It went well. The turn out was lower than usual. Usually for our English lectures we get full capacity crowds. This time there were about 30 people there only. But the lecture was very interesting. It wasn't boring at all and it had a very interesting discussion at the end because of Oman's opposing view to international concensus with regards to conservation and protection. Oman's position is absolutely no hunting of animals while other countries believe in sustainable hunting. How do you balance Oman's point of view with the international? Should Oman alter its stance or should we just tell other countries you do it your way and we'll do it ours?
Anyhow, was good. And neither Kaza or Balqis showed up. Shame on you girls.
it's good to see this information in your post, i was looking the same but there was not any proper resource, thanx now i have the link which i was looking for my research.
